The Pritikin Principle

The Pritikin approach to dieting was formulated by Dr. Nathan Pritikin for himself in the late 1950s after he was diagnosed with incurable heart disease. His goal was to come up with a sensible weight management program that would promote well-being through the lowering of cholesterol levels and, for diabetics, the control of their blood sugar without the use of insulin. The loss of weight that resulted from the adoption of this program was only secondary.

Today, there are over 70,000 people who have successfully benefited from Pritikin's program. All enrolled in his Longevity Centers, these people have developed good eating habits, learned how to prepare healthy, low-fat food, and have successfully incorporated exercise and stress-free activities into their life. 

After it was discovered to lead to steady weight loss, more and more people became interested in Pritikin's Principle and a new breed of followers was born.
