The Glycemic Index Diet
The Glycemic Index Diet, on the other hand, recommends carbohydrates that do not effect a sharp rise in blood sugar levels. Thus it becomes a useful tool for people who may be suffering from illnesses that are directly affected by this fluctuations in blood sugar. Despite these benefits, however, the American Diabetes Association has argued that there are many factors that may affect the glycemic index value of a certain type of food such as what other food items are taken with it and the manner by which the food is prepared. In view of this, the American Diabetes Association decided that there is not enough evidence to support the move to recommend the use of the Glycemic Index Diet for people with diabetes.

The Glycemic Index (GI) is a list of carbohydrate containing foods that are rated according to the degree by which they affect the rise in blood sugar levels. People suffering from diabetes often find the Glycemic Index useful as a guide in selecting food, especially carbohydrates, for meal planning.
