The Blood Type Diet

With all the different kinds of weight loss programs being promoted by so many people nowadays as well as the numerous diets that are popping up left and right, it has become more and more confusing for those whose only wish is to bring down their weight and adopt a healthy lifestyle. Choosing the most suitable diet program has never been this difficult. The question that nags one's mind is why some diets work for some people but are complete disasters  for others?

Dr. Peter D'Adamo's Blood Type Diet which he discusses lengthily in his best-selling book Eat Right for Your Type seems to provide the answer. According to his theory, a person's blood type determines the manner by which his body reacts to certain foods. Rooted in evolutionary history, Dr. D'Adamo claims further that the various blood types (type O, type A, type B and type AB) slowly emerged as early man's eating styles and environmental conditions began to change. Initially, all humans were of the same blood type — type O — and all of them were hunters and meat-eaters. Then as man learned to develop the land and began to adopt an agrarian lifestyle, the type A blood type emerged.  The type B blood type surfaced as a result of the climactic changes that occurred in the mountains of the Himalayas and blood type AB is a result of some changes that occurred in modern civilization.

Dr. D'Adamo believed that the success of early man's adaptation to his environment was directly influenced by diet and man's particular blood type.  Thus, the key to optimal health was to consume the same foods as those consumed by our ancestors who had the same blood type as ours. For instance, Dr. D'Adamo recommends that people with type O blood should consume more meat while those with type A blood, more fruits and vegetables.
