Frequently Asked Questions

If I hit a plateau (I can’t seem to lose weight) while dieting, should I further reduce calorie intake?

No, if you have already reduced your calorie intake, your body’s metabolism has adjusted to the amount of food it is getting.  Further cutting back on calories will cause your body to go into famine mode, hoarding the energy it gets.  You need to exercise to increase your metabolism so it will burn more calories.

How do I figure out how much weight should I lose?

The best thing to do is consult with your doctor about your weight.  You can discuss what the ideal weight is for you based on your height, build and age.  You can also use the Body Mass Index (BMI) to give a pound range for a healthy weight.

Can giving up smoking make me gain weight?

Not everyone gains weight when they quit smoking.  You are more likely to gain weight if you have smoked for years or smoked one or more packs of cigarettes a day.
