Frequently Asked Questions

Does a fat-free label mean a food product does not have fat?

No, food labeling regulations define fat-free as containing less than 0.5 grams fat per serving and no added ingredient that is fat or generally understood to contain fat.  Fat-free still contains a little amount of fat.

Why do most fad diets fail?

Fad diets that guarantee quick fixes will not keep the weight off for a long period of time because they do not change the eating patterns.  Once weight goal is achieved, dieting stops and the pounds creep back.  Participants also find diets hard to sustain partly because they tire of eating the same food over and over again.

How much lower in calories is a reduced-calorie food than its regular counterpart?

According to the Food and Drug Administration which determines the criteria for labeling claims from manufacturers, reduced-calorie foods must be at least 25% lower in calories than a similar food
